It combines live and interactive learning sessions, delivered via video link by the museum’s Education team, with investigations of real museum objects in the classroom.
Following a successful pilot scheme across Northern Ireland in 2020, the National Museums NI Education team are offering ‘Museum on the Move’ to support other schools and is encouraging teachers in Co. Down to register their interest in the programme.
Hannah McCaughey, a teacher involved in the pilot programme from St Comgall’s PS, Bangor, said, “The children in P5 were transported to another time and world through the Museum on the Move: Afterlife programme (Ancient Egypt).
Work started in the Bridle Loanan area at the start of April and will see more than 10,000 metres of pipeline laid to enable properties near the Burren Road, Dallan Road and Upper Dromore Road to have natural gas installed for the first time.
The 30-week programme will almost complete the planned network growth in the area.
The work has been agreed with Transport NI and signage will be in place to advise motorists of any diversions.
Ciaran Brennan, Network Engineer for firmus energy said, “firmus energy first entered Warrenpoint in 2011 and since then we’ve laid 28km of pipeline in the area to give 2,711 homes and businesses the opportunity to connect to the natural gas network.

The Loyalist Communities Council (LCC) has renewed a call for peaceful protests during a small protest outside Irish government offices in Belfast.
Members of the group held a banner outside the city centre offices of the Irish Secretariat yesterday morning.
The LCC is an umbrella group for the Red Hand Commando, the UVF and the UDA and recently claimed none of its associated groups were involved in loyalist violence across the north earlier this month.
Mr Morton noted the Department of Environment and Science’s submission that Smith broke the law.
“He had no permission to enter (the protected zone), he’s not a traditional owner,” Mr Morton said.
Smith was fined $5000 plus ordered to pay investigation costs, leaving him with a total fine of $6982.
A conviction was not recorded.
Smith’s co-accused Mr Little pleaded not guilty to his charge and will represent himself during a hearing listed for September 20 and 21. mackay courts
